A 1st Fifth Fusiliers marching bass drum; the painted mahogany shell bearing the royal motto "Dieu et mon droit", the military motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense" and the Royal Fusiliers mottos "Nec aspera terrent" and "Quo fata vocant", adorned with battle/campaign honours for Wilhelmstadt, St Lucia (1778), Rolica, Vimiera, Corunna, Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Nivelle, Orthes, Toulouse, Peninsula, Lucknow, Khartoum, Afghanistan (1878-80), Modder River and South Africa (1899-1902), calfskin drumhead with rope tension system, makers mark for Hawkes & Son, London, 72cm diameter, 36cm tall.
