NB: Galina Ulanova (Russian, 1910 - 1998) was a Russian ballet dancer, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century and an important figure in Russian history, it is documented that Galina Ulanova would sit for Leonid and Olga Tikhomirov to paint her. Ulanova was prima ballerina assoluta at the Bolshoi theatre for 16 years, and then danced the title role in the world premiere of Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella. Ulanova was one of the few dancers to be awarded Hero of Socialist Labour, and the only one to receive this honour twice, she was also awarded the highest exclusively artistic national title, People's Artist of the USSR and she was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1941, 1946, 1947, 1950, and the Lenin Prize in 1957.

Also, exhibited at 'The Penny Royal Theatre Exhibition of Russian Paintings 1920 - 1980 at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, February 1989, in aid of The British Red Cross Armenia Earthquake Appeal', exhibit number 2, described as 'the Tikhomirovs have managed to convey an intense and immaculate image of this great star, the serious mood is complemented by the feeling of gentleness evoked by the flowers', the image also apprears on the front cover of the exhibition catalogue.

NB: Galina Ulanova (Russian, 1910 - 1998) was a Russian ballet dancer, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century and an important figure in Russian history, it is documented that Galina Ulanova would sit for Leonid and Olga Tikhomirov to paint her. Ulanova was prima ballerina assoluta at the Bolshoi theatre for 16 years, and then danced the title role in the world premiere of Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella. Ulanova was one of the few dancers to be awarded Hero of Socialist Labour, and the only one to receive this honour twice, she was also awarded the highest exclusively artistic national title, People's Artist of the USSR and she was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1941, 1946, 1947, 1950, and the Lenin Prize in 1957.

She was a founding member of both the Jack of Diamonds (1909–1911), Moscow's first radical independent exhibiting group, the more radical Donkey's Tail (1912–1913), and with Larionov invented Rayonism (1912–1914), she was also a member of the German-based art movement Der Blaue Reiter. Born in Russia, she moved to Paris in 1921 and lived there until her death.
