A 19th century J Jaques & Sons of London 'In Status Quo' travelling chess set, with stained red and natural bone chess pieces, closed 23cm wide by 14cm deep by 6cm high, open 29cm by 23cm. - These were made for train and ship journeys in the late 19th and early 20th century, and have a mechanical locking system for the pieces.
