Car mascot / hood ornament: 'Coq Gaulois' (Gallic Rooster), by Charles Paillet, signed, bronze, dispayed on a later wooden base, total height 17.5cm.

This version by Paillet is thought to be the one selected by Alexandre Millerand, President of France from 1920 to 1924, to be adapted as a radiator mascot for his Presidential Voisin cars and limousines, the mascot known as Coq Gaulois, was later commercialised by the automobile accessories firm Mestre & Blatge. This example shows the famous patriotic French rooster standing upon the headpiece from a staff of a Prussian regiment, a symbol of the Franco-Prussian War, Alexandre Millerand had acted as Minister of War (1912 - 1914/15).
