These commemorative beakers are referred to as 'The Cup of Sorrows'. They were to be distributed to the public during the Coronation ceremony. Within the gathered public a rumor began that these cups contained a gold coin. The subsequent crush caused by this false information took the lives of over one thousand people.

According to one Galleries website George Bailey studied art at Richmond College of Art in Surrey, he lived and worked in Paris and The Netherlands, exhibited at the Royal Academy, London and at other London Galleries and had a one man exhibition at Segal's Gallery in Los Angeles, but we have not been able to verify this.
