Jerome John Garcia was an American musician who was the principal songwriter, lead guitarist, and a vocalist with the rock band Grateful Dead. Garcia began his artistic endeavors at a young age, studying painting at the San Francisco Art Institute during his teenage years. Following a serious car accident in 1961, he chose to devote himself entirely to music, setting aside his visual art practice until the late 1980s. During this period, he re-emerged as a visual artist, producing a diverse array of watercolors, ink drawings, and computer-generated artworks.
