Ian Falconer (American, 1959 - 2023), 'Whippet hound in armchair' oil on canvas, 87cm by 71cm, framed.

NB: Ian Falconer was David Hockney's lover, the dog in the painting was Ann Upton's whippet (Ann graves, nee upton, 1941-2017, met Hockney at the Royal College of Arts in 1960 and became his lifelong friend, model, and LA based assistant, when she later married Hockney's assistant, David Graves, Hockney was the photographer at their wedding. It is beliecved that the chair in this painting is Hockney's chair in his house.

Provenance: Verified as by Ian Falconer by Tonia Barringer, who handled Falconer's artwork and archives, copies of corresponding emails come with this lot.
