A statement of provenance from the current owner: the glass jar and cover may have been a present from the Swedish King when staying at Peamore House, Alphington, Exeter, when the property was still owned by the Kekewich family (my family has the bed in which he slept there). The house was sold after World War II, and became a hotel for a time, but eventually a major sale of its contents was held (c.1960s) and the glass jar and cover were aquired by my mother (wife of Sir Jocelyn Lucas, who had previously been the second husband of the widow of Sir Trehawke Kekewich Bt. of Peamore). I have owned the glass jar since inheriting it in 1974

Provenance: gifted to vendors grandmother (Alice Timbrell) by a cousin (Valda Smith) who was related by marriage to Edward Smith, thence by descent. Exhibited in the 1980's 'Canals and River Trust', Gloucester Museum, comes with further research by the vendor.
